Finalize ideas for theme of our one hour show
We discussed our previous ideas for our one hour show but eventually decided on a new package. I had the idea of focusing our ideas around Scottish Exports, things that come from Scotland but are appreciated around the world. We all agreed that the packages would be interesting and we all had something that we were interested in exploring
Discuss individual Package ideas
Each of us came up with certain ideas that we would like to explore. James was interested in studying Scottish Sitcoms that have appeared on national TV channels, Allan was interested in Scottish Music and its impact around the world, Hassan wanted to focus his package on Tartan and my idea was to look at the impact Scottish writers have had on the American Comic book Industry.
Guests
We aren’t sure who we could have as a guest for our show but we all decided we would look into it.
Radio Station for One Hour Magazine Show
As the show is focused on Scottish Exports we decided the best fit would be BBC Radio Scotland
Catching Jen Up
We discussed how we could bring Jen up to speed with the group theme as she had not attended any of the meetings
Action Points
Solidify our individual Package ideas.
Bring Jen up to speed with the group.
Come up with ideas for suitable guests.

Initial Ideas & Groups.

We've been put in to our groups for the graded unit (originally containing 6 members, but now 5 after one member has since left the course) and several different ideas have been thrown about. The first idea we had for a theme that we had, was to do something on student life. It was going to detail every aspect of student life, from leaving home to the graduation, with each member of the group tackling a different part of it.

But after a conversation that some of the group members had, we decided that we probably shouldn't do that idea. Two of the reasons being that it just seemed too easy, and we'd run out of people to interview; every package would feature an interview with a student, and being in a college, it'd be incredibly easy to get people. It's better for it to be a bit more challenging to find people to feature in the different packages, and emailing people asking them to be involved, etc. That's what it's like in the radio industry, so it makes sense to go for something a bit more challenging.

An idea I had, and a few members of the group are interested in, is for the theme to be a live event. Every package would cover a different aspect of setting up a live event. Choosing a venue, The Promotion, The Feeling/Nerves a Performer feels before performing, The Actual Show and The Come-down (or 'What's Next?', a package that contains everyone that was involved in the previous packages and about what they're going to move on to do.)
That idea isn't set in stone at this stage, as some members of the groups are yet to put forward their ideas, but it's quite likely that it will be something along those lines.

Minutes for Meetings - 2nd Meeting

HNC Creative Industries Radio Broadcasting.
Graded Unit DM2P 34
Creative Project DM0W 34
Meeting 2 22/02/2012
Location A107 Edinburgh’s Telford College
Agenda: Discuss Program Theme and style
Discuss individual Package ideas
Minutes of meeting 22/02/2012, Room A107, Edinburgh’s Telford College.
Present: Allan Martin
               Hassan Noori
               James Walker
Discuss Program Theme and style
We discussed the idea that we had at the last meeting (Student Life) and came to the conclusion that that would be a bit too easy, in that we could just take someone from the corridor, talk to them and that could count as an interview. Something challenging would be a better thing to go for.
An idea that the three of us present settled on and liked, is the theme of live events. Every package will focus on different aspects of a live event; one on organising it, one on promoting it and selling the merchandise, one on the nerves a performer feels before they go onstage, one on the actual gig and one on what’s next featuring everyone interviewed in the previous packages. That gives us 5 packages, and as one member of our group has since left, that’s all we need.
Discuss individual Package ideas
The initial package ideas that we came up with to go with the new theme, were as follows.
  1. Putting together a Live Event – choosing a venue, why this event and choosing the acts for the event.
  2. Promotion and Merchandise – how an event is promoted, the power of merchandising and more.
  3. Nerves & anticipation before the gig – talking to a psychologist about what people are actually feeling at this point, how an act feels, how excited the fans are.
  4. The Gig – what goes on behind the scenes (tech guys, etc)
  5. What’s Next? - talking to the people involved in previous packages and more.

Action Points
Talk to the members of the group who were not in attendance during this meeting, and ask them how they feel about the new idea and if they’d like to make any changes, find out what they are. And then settle on something, so we can all get working on our individual packages.

Discuss Program Theme and style
The topic that we discussed about doing was on the life of a new student. Basically we are going to follow the life of a new student in Edinburgh and follow them through various scenarios starting with leaving home and finishing with Graduation.
Discuss individual Package ideas
  1. Moving Away From Home – We would have an interview with a new student about how they’re feeling before moving away for the first time and also the parents on how they are feeling with their child moving away from home. Also we will contact someone that is involved with student accommodation on how they help new students fit in well and what facilities are available to them.
  2. College life - This package would be about the way the college welcomes new students and what the college has to offer them. For interviews we would have the principal along with the Student union and also the tutor of the student under focus on what the course they are studying is all about.
  3. What Edinburgh has to offer to students – This part is all about why Edinburgh is perfect for students. We would have a voxpop at a student night asking people what they love about student nights also an interview with the promoters of a student night on what are the attractions of hosting a student night.
  4. Student Debt and stress – We couldn’t do a package on new students without talking about the problems with student debt. This would give the students advice on how to cope with student debt as we would have interviews with a student currently in debt and also with the student support. We have also talked about getting in contact with a major charity who deals with people in debt.
  5. Graduation – Finally we would end it all off with the graduation speaking to a student about to experience their first graduation along with the principal on what the college does to host this big occasion. Also we would speak to a career advisor about what advice they would give to a student looking to start their new career.
Decide roles
We hadn’t yet decided who was doing what, as the whole group wasn’t present and we wanted to make sure everyone had an input with the whole show.
Action Points
What are next meeting will be about is who will be doing what and deciding who we will have to interview.
