Interview 3 - Paul English

I know only 3 interviews are needed for the package, but I think this guy would be a great addition to the package. He's a writer for the Daily Record and in the past has interviewed Robert Florence, Brian Limond and Greg McHugh, three of the key creators of Scottish Comedy in recent years. I've listened to these interviews and from it, took that Paul would definitely be up for speaking to me. He's also written articles for The Daily Record about getting Burnistoun shown on TV, UK-wide.

I first tweeted Paul, whose twitter handle is @paulenglishhack, and asked if there was an email I could get him on. He replied, and shortly after I sent him this email.

To which he replied, and here's the rest of our conversation.

As you can see, there was a bit of trouble when I tried to call his office phone. But he replied almost immediately with his mobile number.

Here are some of the questions that I'm going to ask.

  1. what do you think it is that makes it hard for scottish comedies to be shown uk-wide?
  2. Do you think scottish comedies give viewers anything that english ones can't?
  3.  do you think the creators of scottish comedy should change their work for a uk-wide appeal?
  4. do you think that TV is less-open to scottish comedy than the stand-up circuit? and if so, why?
  5. if it was up to you, would you show more scottish-made shows be broadcast across the uk?
(do you think viewers outside of scotland are missing out? do you think tv play it a bit too safe?)

The interview is at 4 o'clock today.
